We change, but yet remain the same…
Over the years the choir has changed personnel but we still hold the enjoyment of singing for ourselves, as well as for others, as our core value.
History
The Stevenage Ladies Choir
was formed in 1960, originally made up of the wives of members of Stevenage Male Voice Choir who decided they'd like to have a go at singing themselves.
The choir has taken part in various competitions over the years, and one of our greatest achievements has been winning a Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Music Festival.
The choir has previously had the great pleasure of singing with some notable groups including BLAKE and Tenors Unlimited at venues such as the Gordon Craig Theatre and the Alban Arena and has raised many £1000’s for a host of local and national charities.
We have performed regularly alongside other choirs from around the UK, and in our earlier days from Europe - this has allowed us to stretch ourselves by learning pieces in foreign languages (including Welsh, German and Italian!), on tours to France, Germany and Holland.
Having celebrated our 60th Anniversary in lockdown, the choir has grown and transformed many times since 1960, with many changes of membership and musical teams. We can't wait to see what changes the next 60 years brings us!
Where we began.

“It does not need to be perfect - or technically correct - to be magic”
— Rasheed Ogunlaru
Coach and author Rasheed Ogunlaru's quote is perfectly suited to the world of community singing. The voice - or result of a choir singing together - doesn’t have to be flawless to produce a magical effect. The best moments come from singing together, and sometimes it really doesn’t matter what that sounds like - the feeling is much more important!
